Artificial Intelligence (AI) Library Guide

AI technology

Artificial intelligence tools have revolutionized the technology we encounter in all areas of work and life. These tools have improved how we approach research, offering capabilities that optimize processes and enhance academic excellence.

In academia, they provide valuable assistance in finding and reviewing bibliography, improving the quality of writing, managing references, and analyzing complex data. Artificial Intelligence can help identify connections between research articles, suggest relevant sources, and support editing to improve researchers' texts. In short, they support researchers at every stage of their research, making tasks that once required hours possible in a few minutes.

Below are various artificial intelligence tools that support researchers and students in performing different tasks.

Chatbots

A chatbot is a computer program designed to simulate conversation with humans, especially over the internet (Chatbot/Definition of chatbot in Oxford English Dictionary, n.d.). Modern chatbots increasingly use AI conversational techniques, such as natural language processing (NLP), to understand users’ questions and automate their responses (https://www.ibm.com/think/topics/chatbots ). They respond intelligently when spoken to via text or voice (Khanna et al., 2015). In education, students primarily gain from AI-powered chatbots in three key areas: homework and study assistance, a personalized learning experience, and developing various skills (Labadze et al., 2023). In the same article, the authors argue that teachers benefit from them since they save time while improving their pedagogical methods.

Chatbot tools

An artificial intelligence tool that uses advanced language processing to conduct discussions, answer questions, and provide assistance. It assists learners in research, learning, and writing by explaining, summarizing information, and generating ideas. While it can be a valuable resource, students should critically evaluate its responses and cross-reference them with reliable academic sources.

Copilot is a conversational workspace that supports Microsoft 365 users. It allows for information search, text creation, code writing, and creating images and graphics from text descriptions. Specifically, it helps users with a wide range of tasks, such as:

Answering Questions: Copilot can provide detailed answers to queries, helping users find information quickly and efficiently.

Text Generation: Whether it’s composing emails, writing reports, or creating content, Copilot can create coherent and contextual text.

Image Generation: Users can describe the image they need, and Copilot can generate it based on the description.

Content Summarization: Copilot can condense large documents or articles into concise summaries, making it easier to understand the key points.

Web Search Capabilities: Copilot can perform web searches to provide up-to-date information and answers. Leveraging the Bing search engine, Copilot can access a wide range of public data, ensuring that users receive accurate and up-to-date information. This feature enhances Copilot’s ability to assist in research, fact-checking, and discovering new knowledge.

Anthropic's Claude is a flexible AI system designed for various tasks, including creating, analyzing, and conversing with text-based or visual content. It is known for its ability to handle complex conversations, generate creative and technical content, and interpret visual data. Perplexity AI is an artificial intelligence search engine and chatbot designed to provide accurate and comprehensive answers to user queries. Searching the web in real time offers up-to-date information on various topics. Notably, the chatbot has an "Academic" focus setting (see here) where one can search for scientific material such as articles, journals, etc.

Perplexity AI for Digital Marketing ...

It is a chatbot developed by Google and works similarly to ChatGPT. Helpful in answering questions, generating text, providing advice and ideas, summarizing texts and data, language translation, etc.

One advantage is that, as Google runs it, it collects data in real-time, unlike ChatGPT, which was last updated on April 29, 2025.
